The Japanese have long been protagonists of budget convenience capsule hotels with beds and little else. However, Yotel are now trying to emulate this phenomenon.

The flamboyant founder of Yotel, Simon Woodruffe, is quoted as saying:
“I was lucky enough to get an upgrade to the sleeper bed in British Airways first class. I went to sleep with the conundrum of how to make a Japanese capsule hotel acceptable in the west and woke up realising the solution was around me: all I needed to do was find the designer of the BA first class cabin and ask them to help me design a hotel.”
To be honest that BA designer looks to have done a pretty good job. The interior looks clean and sleek.
The Yotel site says:
“In the 21st Century luxury will be available to everybody at the right cost and here is a taste of that future. We’ve used the language of business class airlines because they know how to use a small space and some of the technology of luxury yachts to create our three tier cabin system. Premium cabins for those who want a bit more cabins with a bigger double bed. Standard cabins with everything you’d expect from a comfortable hotel in a small space and cabin for two, both with en suite bathrooms, cabin entertainment and room service and soon to come Economy cabins with a difference.”
Overnight stays cost £55, room only with beds that can sleep two. Cosy!!
There is also an option to book 4hr slots for £25 if you fancy a quickie.
The whole thing is a great idea for anybody who soley wants to catch forty winks.
