The Vineyard at Stockcross Berkshire - Reviewed

The Vineyard at Stockcross is a fine British example of a country house hotel. It’s location is within a short distance of London and is described as an “18th century hunting lodge with modern extensions housing the spa”.

The hotel focuses on a “fusion of food and wine” - not quite sure what that really means - nonetheless the executive chef John Campbell and head chef Peter Eaton offer dishes with an emphasis on local ingredients (crayfish, watercress, blackberries, sloes and mushrooms). You should check out the signature starter of salmon mi-cuit marinated in vanilla.

The hotel comprises 49 rooms with a mix of old fashioned decor - four poster beds etc and contemporary Atrium Suites.

There are whispers that celebrity guests include Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. The location is perfect for access to Newbury racecourse.

Double rooms are priced at £125 ($250) per night.

Definitely worth a visit, if only for a few nights…
