If you’re looking to recharge the batteries then you might want to give the Esalen Institute some consideration.

Founded in 1962 as an alternative educational center devoted to the exploring “human potential,” i.e the world of human capacities that lies beyond the imagination.

The joys of Esalen soon became well known for it’s mix of East/West philosophies and its breathtaking grounds blessed with natural hot springs. Known as a territory once belonging to a Native American tribe called the Essalen, the institute is situated on 27 acres of spectacular Big Sur coastline with the Santa Lucia Mountains rising sharply behind.

Esalen includes baths, showers and massage rooms which are designed to optimise the views of the ocean. At certain times of year, you can observe migratory whales pass by. The mix of spa and holistic treatments at Esalen draws visitors from all ages and from all over the world.
