Taking Hand Luggage Only

Lost luggage can genuinely blight a holiday or short trip, so where ever possible it’s well worth taking carry-on luggage only.

This effectively means taking on board one bag measuring no more than 22 inches x 18 inches x 10 inches. Fitting in all your holiday wear can be a definite squeeze - but it is possible if you know that your hotel provides the following:

1. Laundry service.

2. Beach and bath towels.

3. Dressing gowns.

You can also save weight and space by doing the following:

1. Buy toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant etc at your destination. Remember that you’re only allowed to take on board 100ml bottles of liquids in a plastic bag.

2. Buy cheap clothes,  sandals or shoes at your destination. Doing this doesn’t always mean binning them on your return - many airports outside the UK do not operate a one bag hand luggage rule. It’s always worth double checking with the airport at your destination.

3. A great idea is to throw in a few shrink wrapped T-shirts.

4. Wear anything bulky like jeans, overcoats, hoodies, doc martens etc though check in.

5. If your packing shoes - make sure they are stuffed with socks to save space.
