Romantic Break at the Ice Hotel?

It’s well publicised but still quirky as hell. What am I talking about? The Ice Hotel in Sweden of course. Quite frankly I can’t think of anywhere more unusual to lay your head for the night.

Every year for the last seventeen years the hotel has been carved and built out of pure ice every winter. I don’t think there is any doubting the sheer beauty of this place but surely it must put the dampeners on any romantic encounters!

The Ice Hotel say:

“ICEHOTEL is situated in the village Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The heart and backbone is the River Torne flowing freely through the unspoilt wilderness. Covered with a meter thick ice layer winter time the river is the source of all our art, architecture and design. The pure water and the steady movement of the river creates the clearest ice possible.

Staying at ICEHOTEL is a must for the modern adventurer – an experience utterly unlike other hotel stays.

After a day of adventure, nightfall approaches quickly. The outdoor temperature drops and when you step inside ICEHOTEL, you feel a rush of warm air. Inside, the temperature is never colder than -5 °C to -8 °C, regardless of how cold it may be outside. It will soon be time to climb into bed. Dress in warm thermal underwear, put on a hat and slip into the cozy sleeping bag. Share the whole surrealistic ice-night with someone special.”

Umm I still have doubts over the romantic possibilities here! However, it’s an experience you’re not going to forget anytime soon.
