Paragliding in Verbier Switzerland
The skiing season is virtually upon us and personally I can’t wait to hit the slopes. But for the more adventurous there are things to do outside the realms of skiing and snowboarding.
How about paragliding in Verbier Switzerland, certainly when the slopes get a little crowded I can’t think of a better way of getting away from the hustle bustle!

Lumped in to the category of extreme sports, paragliding is often overlooked by many. However, it can be a wonderfully liberating experience and surprisingly easy to do. Plus you get see the local scenery from a completely new perspective.
Verbier Summits offer paragliding trips in the valley and say:
“The flying conditions in Verbier allow you to take to the air more than any other alpine destination, guaranteeing you get maximum airtime during your holiday, and with over twenty launch and landing grounds you can be sure to take off in virtually any wind direction.
The launch sites in Verbier range from altitudes of 1,600M to our highest site at 2,800M. Thermals in our valley regularly exceed 4,000M, which is 2,000M above the average launch ground. From this height you can appreciate the breathtaking view of the alps spread out beneath you, with the Mont-Blanc towering majestically in one direction and the legendary Matterhorn in the other!
Due to strong thermal activity that starts early in the day, Verbier is an ideal starting point for distance flights. Just talk to our instructors who will be happy to suggest a flight plan for you and help with entering your GPS waypoints.
From June to September, the valley winds rise up mountain flanks every evening creating incredible ridge soaring conditions where you can play for hours on end, just a few metres off the ground. The wind usually holds out until the sun finally sets at 10.30pm… What a great way to finish a day’s flying!
Qualified instructors will take care of the complicated stuff, such as steering and landing, while you sit back and enjoy the view. On a good day, you’ll be surrounded by up to 20 other paragliders, who spend the afternoon circling on the thermals and soaking up the sun. Flights last about half an hour and cost around Sfr80 (£34).”
This just sounds too cool to miss.
