Desert Island Luxury - Tokoriki, Fiji

Fiji is simply one of the most beautiful collection of islands in the world. Crystal blue seas, coral reefs galore, brilliant white sand - paradise personified. I spent part of my honeymoon in Fiji and it was simply stunning.

One of the Fijian islands since recommended to me is Tokoriki - part of the Fijian, south pacific archipelago. The facilities, cuisine (a mix of Australasian, Asian and European) luxury spa treatments and stunning scenery offer the perfect holiday location.

Tokoriki.com says:

“This Island Resort offers a romantic playground for the discerning traveller. A private island resort, where romance meets affordable luxury. Share a sumptuous picnic on your own private beach for the day. Snorkelling amidst a rainbow of tropical fish on our prolific house reef. Having a romantic candle lit dinner under a blanket of stars. Doing as much or as little as you please every single day you are here. Imagine your own Tokoriki experience.

Meet the people Conde Nast Traveller Magazine readers voted the “Friendliest People in the World”. Share in their stories; visit the village; partake in a traditional kava ceremony with the chief; meet the children in school; get to know our staff - they truly are our best asset. At Tokoriki, you will “arrive as a visitor and leave as a friend.”

Your bure (pronounced “mboo - ray”) is a private beachfront retreat dotted along a thousand meters of natural white sandy beach. Your meals are a plentiful fusion of Australian, Asian and European influences made from fresh ingredients sought throughout the South Pacific region. With a wide selection of spa therapies available, everyday can be a day of pampering and relaxation. Indulge in your own Tokoriki experience.”

Fiji is by no means a cheap destination and parts of the islands suffer terrible poverty - hardly surprising with unemployment rates well into double digits. There are even a few no go areas on the bigger Fjian islands so be clear about this when you arrive. However, the vast majority of people are very friendly and the hospitality is almost second to none.
