Steaming across the icy wastes on a snow mobile has always seemed like quite an appealing mode of transport, particularly as a change of pace from skiing. Well if that appeals then you might want to pay a visit to Humber Valley Resort where you can snowmobile to your hearts content across the breathtaking countryside.

Wrapped up in a compulsory all in one suit you head out on a leisurely ride into unspoilt terrain. There are around 1,200 groomed trails that wind through wooded areas, open snowfields and deep mountain ravines. Keep your eyes peeled for the elk that wander around as they please. Tours start from $150 (£71).
As a keen fisherman myself I am always enthusiastic about exploring new opportunities. However, ice fishing is not something that springs immediately to mind when considering new fishing challenges.
Nonetheless, there are reports that many people are making their way to Fernie each season on the promise of huge dumps of snow and being tempted by alternative past times to skiing - ice fishing being one of them. Many of the locals contend that for a true taste of traditional Canadian life you really need to, head out on an ice fishing trip. Um I suppose they would say that wouldn’t they!
The trip is offered by Fernie Wilderness Adventures who pick you up from your hotel, and escort you by 4x4 (or snowmobile if you’re lucky) to one of the nearby lakes. They’ll cut a hole and show you how to drop a line after which it’s a matter of patience. If you’re fortunate, you’ll be having fresh Eastern Brook trout for supper.
I can’t say that this gets me particularly excited, but I suppose you simply can’t knock these things until you try them!
Ever fancied trying your hand at one of those dangerous looking winter Olympic Sports? If you have, a Bobsledding trip to Utah is a must.

For a reasonable $200 ($108) you can slip your way upto 130 km/h with an experienced driver. Just don’t expect to take any part in actually controlling the thing!
Apparently it makes a roller coaster ride seem pretty tame. It’s hardly surprising when you’re likely to be experiencing 4 G’s of force and the equivalent of a 40-storey drop in less than a minute on a four person public passenger bobsled ride. An experienced driver takes three passengers down the entire length of the Olympic bobsled track. Participants must be 16 years of age and older.
Awesome!!!
If you’re in need of inspiration to do something a little insane on you’re next skiing holiday take a look at these extreme dudes Francois Bon and Antoine Montant on the top of Eiger peak.

Crazy stuff but kinda inspirational too!

It’s well publicised but still quirky as hell. What am I talking about? The Ice Hotel in Sweden of course. Quite frankly I can’t think of anywhere more unusual to lay your head for the night.

Every year for the last seventeen years the hotel has been carved and built out of pure ice every winter. I don’t think there is any doubting the sheer beauty of this place but surely it must put the dampeners on any romantic encounters!
The Ice Hotel say:
