Prince William and Kate Middleton are apparently enjoying the delights of the exclusive Desroches Island Resort in the Seychelles. You can hardly blame them with Summer 2007 a complete wash out in the UK.

Desroches Island is simply idyllic, boasting only a very small number of bungalows set within sun drenched gardens.

The resorts is set on the edge of a white sandy beach just one hour flight from Mahe. Its 20 well appointed junior suites, arranged ten on either side of the central restaurant, bar and lounge area and are connected by a covered walkway.

TripAdvisor currently have a top 10 of island escapes on their homepage. Whilst I agree with some, I think there are some glaring omissions. What about the Fiji Islands, Tahiti, Fraser Island etc etc.

  1. Maui, Hawaii, United States
  2. St. Lucia, Caribbean, North America
  3. Santorini, Cyclades, Greece
  4. Puerto Rico, Caribbean, North America
  5. Jamaica, Caribbean, North America
  6. Bora Bora, Society Islands, French Polynesia
  7. Bahamas, Caribbean, North America
  8. Phuket, Thailand, Asia
  9. Turks and Caicos, Caribbean, North America
  10. St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, Caribbean

Gaining access to the beautiful island of Petit St Vincent is via motor yacht from Union Island. The island incorporates 22 beach and hillside cottages offering some of the most spectacular beach views in the world.

image

Petit St Vincent is situated within “the Grenadines which are a group of islands sprinkled across what may be the most beautiful stretch of water in the Caribbean. Part of the Windward Island chain, the Grenadines drift southwesterly from St. Vincent, the largest of more than 30 islands that make up the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

“Petit St.Vincent (better known locally as PSV) which lies 40 miles south of St.Vincent, is a paradise of softly rolling hills spread over 113 acres surrounded by two miles of white sand beaches, PSV has been tamed just enough to allow for the presence of 22 discreet and simple, yet luxurious cottages. Lying well off the tourist mainstream, PSV could be best described by what is not there. There is no airport, no formal check in, no keys. There are no televisions nor are there telephones in the cottages.

Above all however, there is privacy. Here, amid untouched nature and surrounded by warm, crystal-clear, turquoise water, one senses that the island is one’s own.

The truly hermitic guest need never meet another visitor. Room service is available for all meals, either in your own cottage or at any other location on the island. Most guests however, choose to make use of the resort’s beautiful bar and dining room for at least some of their meals.”

Fiji is simply one of the most beautiful collection of islands in the world. Crystal blue seas, coral reefs galore, brilliant white sand - paradise personified. I spent part of my honeymoon in Fiji and it was simply stunning.

One of the Fijian islands since recommended to me is Tokoriki - part of the Fijian, south pacific archipelago. The facilities, cuisine (a mix of Australasian, Asian and European) luxury spa treatments and stunning scenery offer the perfect holiday location.

Amanpulo is quite simply an idyllic and secluded private resort.

imageimageimage

Situated on the island of Pamalican, 200 km east of Palawan in the Philippines, the 220 acre isle is surrounded by white sand, crystal clear sea and well preserved coral reefs (50-300 m. offshore).  Guests arrive from Manila by chartered plane which lands directly on Pamalican.

Expect to see whales, dolphins and a whole range of beautiful sea creatures.

With perfect beaches and deep blue ocean Amanpulo is the perfect place to enjoy watersports, guided eco-walks, cycling, tennis and picnicing.

The island’s weather conditions are tropical, with a dry season from sound November to May and some rain from June to October. The average annual temperature is 27.2oC (81oF). January is the coldest month, with an average temperature of 25.5oC (78oF) and May the hottest at 29oC (84oF).

The island comprises a number of luxury cottages or “Casitas” situated either on the beach front or in the slightly cooler hills. All of which are simply stunning.

I genuinely can’t recommend this place highly enough.
